The definitive guide to wedding guest dressing

The definitive guide to wedding guest dressing

It's that time of year again and the wedding season is officially upon us – so whether you have rows of invitations above your fireplace or just a few exciting nuptials on your agenda this summer, it's still a daunting task trying to decide which outfit to wear. Taking the lead from our spring/summer collection we have chosen some ideas to help you plan your wedding wardrobe.

Here's how to be the most stylish guest at the next wedding you attend…

When it is cooler, the suit – whether it’s with a dress, skirt or pair of trousers - is a wardrobe classic. Suits of all varieties were seen in bold, bright shades on the SS/19 catwalks and you can expect to see the same on many stylishly dressed wedding guests this summer. Mix up bold shades with softer hues underneath and dress them down with silk t-shirts if you want to look more relaxed.

Pastels as well bright colours work beautifully for weddings in all locations. Consider also mixing and matching block colours with clean prints – for example our sapphire and ivory Matelassé jacket with the raw silk Pandora trousers. If you’re colour matching, consider our Leila dress-coat in sky blue tweed with our Eve dress in the same colour for your next wedding outfit (this will work right through until October/November if the weather is mild and so perfect for Autumn weddings).

Speaking of bold colours, it has been said that this summer’s LBD has gone red and we recommend that you fully embrace it, particularly for formal weddings or evening events. Our scarlet Jess dress in raw silk will have you feeling glamorous from day to night.  Wear with statement earrings and a pair of neutral-coloured heels.

For more relaxed nuptials, those near a beach or on a vineyard for example, choose prints with a fresh feel and silhouettes that strike just the right balance between a flattering structure and that much needed Mediterranean flow. The scarlet or sapphire and turquoise Cloqué dresses will give you exactly that, while the statement collar on our Tasha dress in cobalt and ivory adds a certain wow factor. Finish off the look with metallic accessories that have a bit of glitz and chic high sandals.

Dressing for weddings often puts florals on the brain, but there’s no need to stick to predictable prints. Why not opt instead for geometric prints that come in a range of beautiful colours. Our Angie dress with embroidered diamonds or graduated dots bring something more original to your wedding guest style and you are less likely to see anyone else in something similar.

Don’t rule out tweed for the summer. It is eternally stylish and will last you for years.  Our tweeds come from the oldest tweed mill in England (which has been supplying Chanel since she began). The material can be very lightweight and comes in beautiful pastel shades – giving it a lovely, summery feel. Tweed suits, dress jackets or cocktail coats work particularly well for city weddings, adding a sharp silhouette that fits in beautifully with a town hall or luxury hotel venue.

And as for accessories for your wedding outfit, whilst clutches might seem like the obvious bag choice for a wedding guest outfit, instead a mini top-handle bag – such as our Fonteyn Mignon - will nestle in your elbow better as you negotiate champagne and canapés. If you’re more of an over-the-shoulder bag wearer then the Small Coppelia is a beautifully elegant choice.

Whatever your style and wherever the wedding – we have a multitude of options to help you achieve elegance and sophistication and enable you to relax in the comfort that you look the part.
